YouTube was temporarily affected early Wednesday morning in India and several other countries. Users reported on social media that the Google-owned video streaming platform was not working properly on both mobile and web. Many people were unable to play videos or use important features. After more than three lakh complaints were recorded on a downtime-monitoring website, YouTube also responded to the disruption.
Update (8:42 AM IST): YouTube confirmed the issue has now been fixed. In a post on X, the company said, “Thanks for all the reports and your patience, we have resolved the problem.”
Sharp rise in complaints
According to Downdetector, about 3.5 lakh users reported difficulty accessing the platform. Around 6:34 am IST, complaints suddenly surged and reached nearly 355,470. Many users saw a “Something went wrong” error while opening the app.
Data showed that 56% of complaints were related to the YouTube mobile app. About 17% of users experienced website issues, while 16% faced login problems. However, the Gadgets 360 team was able to access both the app and website normally.
Company acknowledges technical glitch
Soon after outage reports surfaced, YouTube issued a statement saying it was aware of the problem and its technical team was investigating.
Later, the company clarified that a fault in its recommendation system prevented videos from appearing on the homepage. The issue affected not only the main YouTube platform but also YouTube Music and YouTube Kids. The homepage was restored, though work on a complete fix continued.
YouTube also admitted that some users were unable to sign in to YouTube TV. According to the company, this was part of the broader technical disruption and was also being resolved.
