OpenAI Introduces a New App Store–Like Directory for Third-Party Apps in ChatGPT

OpenAI has launched a new app directory within ChatGPT, making the platform more app-centric across iOS, Android, and the web. The directory functions like an in-app store, allowing users to connect third-party services directly to ChatGPT and complete various tasks without leaving the chat interface. According to OpenAI, these apps provide additional context and make tasks such as travel booking, file management, and document creation through prompts much easier.

The app directory is organised into categories such as Featured, Lifestyle, and Productivity. It includes integrations with popular services like Booking.com, Spotify, and Dropbox. Users can select an app, grant permission, and then interact with it directly in chat using “@” or “/” commands. OpenAI has also simplified its terminology by rebranding tools previously called “connectors,” such as Google Drive, as apps.

Apple Music Integration in ChatGPT

With the new Apple Music integration, users can create playlists through ChatGPT using simple, natural-language prompts. For instance, users can ask for a high-energy holiday rock playlist or a workout mix inspired by a TV show, and ChatGPT will automatically compile the tracks. The feature also helps users find songs, albums, or artists through conversational searches, especially when exact details are unclear.

Steps to enable Apple Music in ChatGPT:

  1. Open ChatGPT
  2. Go to Settings and open the Apps section
  3. Select Apple Music under Browse Apps
  4. Connect your Apple Music account to ChatGPT

Once connected, users can return to the chat and start their request by typing “/Apple Music”.
