Bloomberg Says Apple Will Open CarPlay to Third-Party Voice AI Chatbots

Bloomberg News reported on Friday that Apple is getting ready to support third-party voice-based AI apps in its CarPlay system. People familiar with the development shared this information with the publication.

This move marks a clear shift in Apple’s strategy. Until now, CarPlay has depended only on Apple’s in-house voice assistant, Siri, for voice commands.

After the update, drivers will be able to interact with AI chatbots from other companies through the CarPlay interface. Apple has not released an official statement on the report.

According to Bloomberg, AI developers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google may introduce CarPlay-compatible versions of their apps with voice support.

Apple will still keep control over system-level features. Users will not be able to replace Siri’s button or its wake word. To use a third-party voice assistant, users must open the app manually in CarPlay.

Bloomberg also reported that Apple plans to roll out support for these apps within the next month. Developers will be able to set their apps to start voice mode automatically when users open them.
