Apple has launched its brand-new iPhone 17 lineup at the big “Awe Dropping” event. This year, we not only got the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, but also a new model called iPhone Air, which replaces last year’s iPhone Plus.
Even though full reviews aren’t out yet, early Geekbench scores (a test that checks phone speed and power) have been spotted online. These scores show that the iPhone 17 series brings minor but useful performance improvements compared to the iPhone 16 series. Let’s break it down!
What is Geekbench?
Geekbench is like a test for smart phones. It gives each phone two scores:
- Single-core score → How fast one task can be done.
- Multi-core score → How fast the phone can handle several tasks at once.
iPhone 17 Scores
The regular iPhone 17 got:
- Single-core score: 3,608
- Multi-core score: 8,810
This means it’s 10% faster in single tasks and 11% faster in handling several tasks compared to the iPhone 16.
It uses the new A19 chip and comes with 8GB RAM (memory).
iPhone 17 Pro Scores
The iPhone 17 Pro scored:
- Single-core score: 3,523
- Multi-core score: 9,028
This is a small step up from the iPhone 16 Pro. The Pro model is powered by the A19 Pro chip, which has:
- 6-core CPU (brain of the phone)
- 6-core GPU (graphics for games/videos)
- 16-core Neural Engine (AI and smart features)
It also comes with 12GB RAM, making it more great than the regular iPhone 17.
Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max Scores
The iPhone 17 Pro Max, Apple’s most powerful and smartest phone, got:
- Single-core score: 3,781
- Multi-core score: 9,679
This is a big improvement over the iPhone 16 Pro Max, especially in multi-tasking. Like the Pro, it runs on the A19 Pro chip with 12GB RAM.
Meet the New iPhone Air
Apple exchanged the old “Plus” model with a fresh device called the iPhone Air.
Here are its scores:
- Single-core score: 3,674
- Multi-core score: 8,824
The iPhone Air uses a a little modified version of the A19 Pro chip. The only difference is that it has a 5-core GPU instead of 6. It also has 12GB RAM.
Since it’s a brand-new model, there’s no old version to compare it with. But it looks like Apple designed it as a mid-point between the regular iPhone 17 and the Pro models.
Final Thoughts
- iPhone 17 → Faster than iPhone 16, with 8GB RAM.
- iPhone 17 Pro & Pro Max → More powerful with the A19 Pro chip and 12GB RAM.
- iPhone Air → A brand-new model replacing “Plus”, sitting between standard and Pro.
Overall, the iPhone 17 series doesn’t bring a huge speed jump, but it does give steady improvements. With more RAM and the new A19 chips, Apple is making sure these phones can handle apps, games, and AI features smoothly.
