Apple Could Launch an Affordable MacBook in ‘Playful Colours’ This March

Apple is preparing to enter the budget laptop segment with a new low-cost MacBook. Recent reports suggest the Cupertino-based company may launch the device in March. The company will likely host an event next month, and the MacBook could become the main highlight. This time, Apple also plans a design shift and is testing brighter, more “playful” colour options. Earlier leaks indicate the laptop may use the same chipset found in the iPhone 16 Pro models.

March Event Plans

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed in his Power On newsletter that Apple plans to organise an event next month. During this event, the company may officially introduce the new MacBook. However, Apple has not confirmed whether it will announce only the laptop or unveil additional hardware products as well.

Price and Performance Expectations

Reports suggest Apple may price the laptop below $1,000 (around Rs. 90,700). As a result, it could become the most affordable MacBook so far. To reduce costs, Apple may include the A18 Pro chipset, which also powers the iPhone 16 Pro series.
In addition, the device may feature a slightly smaller display measuring just under 13 inches, whereas the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models offer larger screens.

Colour Options

Apple usually sticks to subtle shades. However, the company now plans to introduce brighter colour choices. Tested colour options reportedly include:

  • Light yellow
  • Light green
  • Blue
  • Pink
  • Classic silver
  • Dark gray

Still, Apple may not release every colour variant at launch.

Design and Build Quality

The MacBook, codenamed J700, should retain Apple’s premium build quality. The company may use an aluminium chassis and manufacture it through a new production method. Consequently, Apple can lower manufacturing costs and speed up production at the same time.

RAM, Battery, and Ports

Previous reports indicate the laptop may offer:

  • 8GB RAM
  • Long battery life
  • USB Type-C ports for data transfer

However, Apple might skip the Thunderbolt port. Therefore, some external display features could remain limited.

Summary

Overall, Apple aims to target students and budget users with this device. At the same time, the company plans to keep its signature design quality and reliable performance while offering a lower price.
