Alphabet-owned YouTube was largely restored after a brief global outage on December 19, according to Downdetector.com. Access to the platform had been disrupted for thousands of users worldwide.
By 9 a.m. ET (9 p.m. Singapore time), around 200 outage reports were recorded. This figure was significantly lower than the earlier peak of nearly 10,800 reports. Service disruptions are tracked by Downdetector through the aggregation of status reports from multiple sources.
In the UK, outage reports were reduced from more than 3,000 to nearly 70. A rapid restoration of service was also reported in Canada. In Singapore, outage reports began at around 7:50 p.m. The number peaked at 805 at 9:19 p.m. It later declined to 284 by 9:34 p.m.
No immediate response was provided by YouTube to a request for comment from Reuters. The actual number of affected users may vary from Downdetector’s data, as the reports are submitted by users.
