Microsoft Is Developing AI Agents That Work Like Independent Users

Microsoft is about to add a new chapter to the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The company is developing advanced AI agents specifically designed for enterprise use.
Unlike traditional AI assistants that are limited to a single function, these agents will act as independent digital users, capable of performing multiple tasks autonomously.

The Redmond-based tech giant has added this new tool to its Microsoft 365 product roadmap, identifying it as part of the “Agentic Users” project.
The company has hinted at a possible launch in November, though the exact release date for enterprise users has not yet been announced.

🧠 AI Agents with Digital Identities

According to Microsoft, Agentic Users represent “a new class of AI that functions as independent users within the enterprise workforce.”
These agents will have their own digital identity and system access, allowing them to work seamlessly across different platforms and applications.
Once launched, they will be available via the M365 Agent Store and Microsoft Teams.

⚙️ Key Capabilities of Microsoft’s AI Agents

These new AI agents from Microsoft will be able to handle multiple tasks independently, such as:
• Attending meetings and participating in discussions
• Editing and managing documents
• Communicating via email and chat
• Collaborating with human employees and other AI agents

In simple terms, these agents will act like digital team members, managing day-to-day tasks with minimal human involvement.

🧾 Licensing and Integration Details

According to Microsoft licensing expert Rich Gibbons (via The Register), internal documents refer to these agents as A365.
Admins will be able to assign licenses during approval, and at least one A365 license type will be required — possibly with different versions for specific roles.

Another admin, João Ferreira, revealed that these AI agents will each have their own email ID, Teams account, enterprise directory entry, and even a place in the organizational chart — confirming that they will function much like real digital employees.
