Telegram’s Pavel Durov Launches “Cocoon” on TON Blockchain

Telegram founder Pavel Durov has launched a new decentralized AI project called Cocoon (Confidential Compute Open Network), built on The Open Network (TON) blockchain.

Speaking at the Blockchain Life 2025 event in Abu Dhabi, Durov said that Cocoon aims to develop AI-powered tools that protect user privacy, as centralized AI platforms often misuse personal data.

Under Cocoon, users can share their GPU power to earn Toncoin, the native cryptocurrency of TON. This system ensures users maintain full control over their data and digital activities, without depending on large AI corporations.

According to Durov, decentralized AI is the key to ensuring digital freedom and transparency.

Experts believe that blockchain technology can make AI data verifiable, secure, and tamper-proof, reducing the risks of data manipulation and censorship.

Telegram has already been expanding its presence in Web3 and blockchain innovation, such as with the recent launch of the DOGS Coin memecoin. Through Cocoon, Durov aims to position Telegram as a leading player at the intersection of AI, blockchain, and digital privacy.
